I guess that's the difference between character and reputation, and I usually just lumped them together as the same thing.

thats a really interesting topic, character and reputation are different things, but equally important. On some levels i think that you shouldn't care what people think of you, "be true to yourself", but what others think of you, is also very important. I could go on on about this but i won't.
