Halloween 2006

I did it, or Hadley made it, I became Jane Fonda - Barbarella for Halloween.

Here I am in the basement of the Roxy downtown pre-evening, these are the coolest boots ever made!

Oh boy, this is what happens when all your drinks are free.

Here's Hadley and I, and the perfectionist in her making sure my collar was standing up straight. She put in many hours sewing my costume, it was incredible sweet and caring of her, thanks Had! She was a glittery Victoria Secret Angle.

I really really wanted to reproduce this exact picture in a studio and I was so close as we found a local photographer who was taking Halloween photos and then you could order prints. I even made the gun from PVC pipe and spray painted it silver. Unfortunately the man was completely narcissistic and thought that insulting women was a fun hobby, so we gave him the riot act (which was actually very satisfying) and highed tailed it out of there. It was very unfortunately though, and I'd forgotten how vial and mean people can be. Oh well maybe another year.

You have to think about this and comment with yours!

What movie star would you have play your autobiography movie!

I say I'd like Kirstin Dunst -
She's so happy friendly and warm, but down to earth and real at the same time. She also has a hint of craziness to her, which I like.

Haldey Warner said Sandra Bullock -
She can come across as kinda aloof at first but underneath it all she's a huge clown just waiting to crack the next joke.

Quentin said - Steve Carell

Cute Life Story

My Mom dropped this on my desk, such a thing she would do.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered anyways; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well.. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off! Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Expect less.

Enough of that crap. The donkey later came back, and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him. The gash from the bite got infected and the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

Moral From Today's Lesson:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

Okay I liked the first bit of the story without the donkey coming back to bite him in the ass, but I thought I'd post it anyways.

PM Dawn

I was driving in the rain recently on Hwy 99 and this song comes on the radio. I thought wow his voice sounds so nice and calming and it put me in a mellow mood. So tonight I googled the video on YOUTube expecting to listen and be taken back to those thoughts that day.

Yah well as soon as I saw the PM Dawn I couldn't help but laugh, I bet you can't watch this video with a straight face. Oh how can you not miss the 90's. The outfits in this song remind me of my first dance in grade 8, red jeans and black shirts, and being squashed up against grade 8 boys during the slow songs.

Happy Birthday Steph

Tonight went to Vancouver to visit Stephanie for her 28th birthday and a whole bunch of us went for a big bike ride along the sea wall from about Science World to English Bay to have dinner. Stephanie and Andrew have 12 funky old bikes in the bike room at their apartment and you can ride any bike you want. Here's Steph and I on an old banana seat bike, just like the one ones we used to have when we were kids, cool! Posted by Picasa

Hanging with the girls.

Me on the Bananna bike again, I totally want one of these!

Steph and her cute skate shoes, they always look great on her.

Salmon with our new Tenants

Our new tenants downstairs are amazing. The're repainting our entire basement suite and recently made us a fantastic salmon dinner. This is Andrew who actually made the salmon, he's a chef at the keg so everything he whips up is very gourmet. Here he made salmon with lime, ginger, garlic, tomatoes and cilantro. Then he put it on a cookie sheet rack with water in the pan so the salmon didn't dry out when it baked, yummy! Posted by Picasa

A Lisa Movie Review

Quentin and I just saw Marie Antoinette starting Kirstin Dunst and it was wonderful. For all you husbands out there who run to your computers to check the latest rating before you'll agree to watch any movie, forget about it! This is worth see before you read about it.
As we were walking out of the theater Quentin casual said, "this movie you had to feel your way through instead of think". I asked him if I quote him on that because it's ver true.
The plot of the movie doesn't do the traditional character dialogue with a strong plot line, instead it was all about the atmosphere and what it must have truly been like to be the Kind and Queen of France.

The life style was very extravagant, with parties and the most beautiful luxuries you could imagine. The price for all the grand however is way to much formal stuffiest. I could never ever live a life were I was constantly required to do protocol, oh it would be so suffocating.
She did however have amazing shoes!!! All the shoes in the movie are designed by Milano, it was very exciting when they have the shoe/party scenes.

I felt sorry for Marie she married probably the most boring man in France and I'm glad she found just a little bit of fun in her days of duty. I couldn't imagine the pressure she must have felt to become pregnant, hmmm things haven't changed that much since the 1700, parents and wanting grandchildren....

I'd also like to say I love Kirstin Dunst in every movie. I love her ability to be so excited and happy in one monment but then serious and realistic the next. She's so bubbly yet just as grounded at the same time, it's character I admire.

So go see the movie, it's so much fun!

Punjab Town

Today Hadley took me to Scott Rd Surrey and we traveled around Indian style. The purpose of our journey was to find a special kind of white fabric for my Halloween costume. Hadley of coarse being extremely picky wasn't satisfied with any of the fabrics, so we ended up with nothing and we''ll have to travel to the city this week. Geesh, but I know it's worth it and she's right!

For some reason all the fabrics with the vibrant color and textures got me really excited. At one point I saw all the sashes hanging from the ceiling and I just had to throw my arm into them to see them move. Hadley and all the store ladies of coarse looked up just as I did it and I got the whole, "gee your defianatly having a moment over there Lisa" But hey what's life if you can't let it be known that you love the fabric.

So I love our Punjab town in surrey and it's so fun to visit especially when you have a half Indian friend who knows most of the store owners, sweet!

Thanksgiving at Pender Island

We went to Otterbay Pender Island for Thanks Giving. Here's an adorable green sailboat in the harbor.

I found my favorite spot in the cabin. The stair case landing had this little window seat and it was perfect to listen to those below. I was hidden and no one could quite see me, yet if there was a conversation that I wanted to contribute too it was a perfect place to yell down my quick snappy opinion and then duck out of the way. Reading the book was a perfect excuse to zone out when the conversation either became too heated or just dull.

We went to an actual vineyard on Pender and Jon and Bradley found a way to have fun with flying grapes.

Michelle and I ran up and down the hills trying the different varieties of grapes. Pinot Noir is my favorite wine right now, so we tried a few types of those grapes as well as Merlot grapes. It was pretty interesting.

Don't tell Q's Mom but he actually enjoys playing the piano. (She's a piano Nazi) The vineyard had a beautiful grand piano and both Quentin and I sat on it for a few minutes playing. I really miss having a piano in the house, it's one of those things you definitely take for granted growing up.

We found some cute sheep in a beautiful pasture and they were really friendly.

Isn't it adorable!

This might sound odd but just as we we're about to leave Jon had to give the sheep a little chase. It made us all think of our family dog that we had for 18 years. He was a herding dog and chasing anything, especially sheep in a huge wide open field on an October day, would have been the ultimate for him.

Pender Island Apple pie!

Dad carving the turkey. I just had to post this picture.

I took this picture of the boys at the ferry terminal on the way home, just liked the look of it.

Rack of Lamb for Dinner

Hmmm I just want to brag for few minutes that tonight I made one of the ultimate dinners for the MacAulay household. I was reading that for thanksgiving other cultures eat lamb, I think it was the French.

So I decided to make my first rack of lamb. I used a New Zealand lamb sauce and it's amazing! With the rack you just cook it in the oven for 25 minutes or till the themometer says 150 and then slice between the ribs to serve.

I also figured out how to make those yellowish potatoes that Greek restaurants serve with most standard meals. It's easy you peel the potatoes, cut them into quarters, add, olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic salt, fresh squeezed lemon and then add curry powder over all the potatoes. The curry powder and lemon together tastes fantastic.

After the heavy lamb and potatoes I made baked tomatoes for the vegetable dish. You just cut the tomatoes in half then top them with salt, pepper, feta, Parmesan, and I tried a bit of olive paste that I had left over from an appetizer dish.

Anyways if you haven't made a rack of lamb before I hope I've inspired you, it's worth it!

The Departed

This is one of those movies that you keep thinking about the next day, well at least I am. Mark Walberg, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson are the main characters.
An opening statement of the movie, "your environment can control you or you can control your environment" hmmm were is this going. Jack Nicholson plays the self absorbed asshole to a T and the entire movie it seems as though he's waving his hands around magically controlling anyone who’s unfortunate enough to fall under his curse.
The movie reminds me of, "Crash" were everything is beyond the characters control, they become objects of the environment instead of being in the environment.
Lies and truth is also discussed in a psychologists office and I think she said, "lies are okay if they even the keel" I'm still don't fully grasp this one, not sure why but I'm having a hard time feeling comfortable with it. It's one thing to lie and to know I shouldn't have done that but to go into the lie thinking it’s appropriate....
I loved loved loved Leonardo DiCaprio in this movie. At first he was highly annoying with his yucky accent but by the kitchen scene he can't seem to sit or look straight and he becomes so hot somehow.
So this is a great one and definitely worth seeing in the theaters or a second time.

MySpace

I don't really myspace but lately I've been hearing more and more about this myspace. Thursday night our social venturing even included an invitation to a private party at the Urban Well with free drink coupons and appetizers because of this myspace. So I guess I better join!

Quentin sent me this clip this morning and if you myspace it's pretty funny.

Comments Work Now!

I was reading one of the latest Star magazines as I was getting a pedicure this week, thank you Michelle, and I noticed one of the latest trends is black nail polish. I have an old bottle of the stuff upstairs that I keep for Halloween so this is surprising, black, seriously!
Then I had an interesting experience and I found myself at the lastest audition for the TV show Fashion File in their search for a new host. Waiting in the lobby with all the other hopefuls I see a very mod girl wearing BLACK NAIL POLISH. Well it doesn't take much to inspire me, I've bought a bottle of a dark current variety of the black polish and now I'm updating my blog template to match.

Section 3

After exploring a few places in the city last night Section 3 in Yale town was my favorite. The music was really really good, most of the guys wore those cute funky glasses that I think are adorable and of coarse the bar had this above it. Come on now what's not to love about this sign, remember the movie , "Revenge of the Nerds"!

Hadley's Photo Shoot

Hadley should be taking it easy right now, but instead we were totally absorbed in a photo shoot on my back deck this evening. The pictures turned out beautifully and I'm loving the photography world even more. Thanks Cal for the introduction!

Comments Don't work :(

Hi everyone for some reason my comments are broken but I'll try to email blogger and see what's going on!!

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Tonight Quentin and I went our very first balloon ride over top of Surrey.

Here they're heating the balloon, you can see the boys in the distance holding the crown line so the balloon won't shoot up too quickly before it's properly inflated.

Here we are flying over King George Hwy close to my parent house. About here I started to get really nervous as I thought, "I'm in a basket, this is only a basket and we're really high", about 600ft.

Passing over the Nicomekl River

The view of the sunset and river system

Cloverdale! At one point Jon called me from just outside our office. He told me to see if I could see his car lights flashing and I couldn't believe it but we could all see it from the basket.

It was hot in the air balloon ride, we had to wear hats to protect our heads.

Fall Flowers

Before Quentin and I went out on our hot air balloon ride tonight I snuck into the adjacent field by the airport and took all these gorgeous flower pictures. They really take my breath away.

The next two I used the watercolors feature in adobe photoshop and it makes me feel I could almost paint one day, which I can't at all.
