Telemarketers

Is it normal to receive up to 4 calls a day from telemarketers. They call all the time, I gave them money once, that's probabley why.
So I usually just hang up when I hear the pause, you can here the computer clicking the line to the operator. Today I felt bad and took the call and bla bla bla they talked forever. I said I was working and couldn't deal with this. I still haven't worked up the nerve to tell them to take me off their list, they just talk to fast. I guess that's the next step.
